Gen meeting 11/15/11

Westlink United Methodist Church

Meeting called to order at 7:00pm by Ron Nutt. Board members present were Jan Decker, Carla Lee, John Handley, and Ron & Sheryl Nutt. Treats were provided by Jan Decker and Sheryl Nutt. If anyone would like to volunteer to bring cookies to a general membership meeting, please contact Sheryl Nutt.

Treasurer reported a checking account balance of $3,285.00, and her report was approved. Secretary's minutes were accepted as written. Email Guy, Tony Decker asked folks to give him their email addresses if they would like to be notified of neighborhood events by email.

Officer Brad Haught gave the community report, mentioning that larceny and burglaries were up including air conditioning unit thefts.

John Poettker and Carla Lee updated us on the status of the placques for the benches at Harvest park, and asked those folks who had paid for them to sign off on the proofs.

Phase 3 of the Harvest Park improvements was introduced and a picture of the gazebo at Woodland Park was circulated.

Speaker was Dr Lorraine Madwey, assistant professor of history at WSU. She spoke of

the quality of the settlers of Kansas and the pride with which Kansas grew. She invited the membership to visit the exhibit at WSU, then she took several questions from the floor.

Ron Nutt once again asked for volunteers to serve as nominating committee. So far, no one has responded. Elections are slated for January 17.

The annual Christmas decorating judging was discussed. Everyone was informed that the judging would take place by or around Dec 17, and prizes and signs would be distributed shortly after. People were encouraged to alert Tony Decker if they wanted their houses to be considered.

Carla Lee gave the WIN report, and mentioned that WIN was going to bring NUSA to Wichita in 2015. She also discussed a call for officers, and talked about grant money for Neighborhood Gardens.

She also discussed the possibility of the overall theme for next year's meetings for WNA to center around civics.
