WNA General Membership Meeting 11-17-09 Westlink United Methodist Church Meeting was called to order at 7:05 pm by Ron Nutt. All board members were present except Rita Zaudke and Amanda West. Cookies and treats were brought by Jan Decker, Sheryl Nutt, and Rita Zaudke. Coffee was provided by Joyce & Richard Wood. Jerry Stegink contributed his equipment and expertise in giving us a decent sound system for the evening. Jan Decker reported a total of $2,932.40 in the WNA checking account, with no expenses outstanding. The secretary's minutes from last General meeting were approved. Officer Tom Roudebush announced that Officer Brad Haught was back from Iraq, and on duty on the West side. The members were very happy to see him again. In Officer Roudebush's report, it appears that burglaries are up citywide, including our neighborhood. Several arrests have been made, but we should be aware that around the holidays it is important to keep our homes secure, locking doors, closing garage doors, and keeping vehicles locked. Karen Smith from Westar Energy addressed the membership. She informed of Westar's participation in renewable energy sources, like wind farms. She also stressed the importance of using energy wisely. She had free kits for all the attendees, and those were distributed. Tony Decker, who organized the pancake and sausage feed gave his report. The event only netted about $15.00 for the organization, but since the goal was to have a social event on the south side of Central, the term "fundraiser" was a little misleading. It was a fun event, and widely enjoyed by those who attended, as well as the volunteers. Since it was our 1st time, some tweaking will be necessary before repeating the event. He also stated that we need more volunteers to deliver LL on the south side, adding that delivery service would be discontinued in areas that don't have any volunteers. Carla Lee talked about the Neighborhood University, sponsored by WIN. There were 135 attendees citywide, and various workshops were presented. She also recited protocol for January elections if no slate is presented. Nominations will, of course, be accepted from the floor. Failing participation, further service may be required of the outgoing board members. Ron attempted to bribe volunteers for the nominating commitee to work with Charles Thompson, by offering copies of John Grisham's new novel "Ford County." No takers. Meeting adjourned at 7:57pm, which is, we believe, a new record. |
