General Meeting, June 19, 2007, Westlink Methodist Church Minutes: Meeting was called to order at 7:05pm by Secretary Scott Fugarino, acting as president pro tem. Pat Ream, treasurer, was appointed, pro tem, to take minutes of the meeting. However, Sheryl Nutt, board member, arrived a few minutes later, and assumed that duty. There were 26 people in attendance at the general meeting, and the officers and board members that were present were introduced. Officers Present: Scott Fugarino, Secretary, Pat Ream, treasurer. Board members present: Tony Decker and Sheryl Nutt. Scott began by informing everyone of the web site simplyneighbors.com, where everyone could learn about WNA's events and meetings, including pictures taken at events. He also explained how people could actually post comments on the site. Next, Pat Ream gave her treasurer's report, showing a 518.00 balance as of May 31. Two police officers were present. They were Officer Brad Haught and Officer Heather Frazier. Officer Haught gave a statistics report on crime in the last year in district 5, which encompasses a much larger area that WNA. There was a notable decrease in all kinds of crimes, including homicides, burglaries, rapes, and vandalism in this district over the last year. Officer Haught attributed that decrease, in part, to neighbors taking a proactive role in reporting incidents. Following Officer Haught's report, Officer Frazier discussed National Night Out and encouraged people to participate in this event. One resident who lives on West Birch voiced concern over suspicious people circling around her neighborhood. She was encouraged to make regular reports to police and to activate a neighborhood watch. Next, Scott discussed the results of the surveys collected at the ice cream social. One resident expressed confusion in how the surveys were filled out, which Scott took under advisement. The main areas of concern as reported are Block Parties, Neighborhood watches, Recycling, Little Ditch cleanup and a neighborhood garage sale. Those present were encouraged to sign up for committees. A spirited discussion about skateboard parks erupted between a resident and Pat Ream. Nothing was resolved, and the discussion was shelved. In New Business, Tony Decker asked if anyone who lived in our association knew anyone in the T-shirt business, to design and print our official WNA T-shirts. Officer Frazier informed those present of Dept Of Aging's program offering free smoke detectors. Another resident introduced the idea of a doggy swim day at Harvest Pool toward the end of summer, and someone else suggested arranging a time for the police to come out for the Ident-a-kid program. Some ideas were tossed around about discounts for trash service, and neighborhood clean-ups. Meeting adjourned at 8:35 pm. |
