Westlink Neighborhood Assoc. General Membership Meeting 9/21/10 West Heights Methodist Church Meeting called to order at 7:00pm by Ron Nutt, president. All board members present except Sheryl Nutt and Amanda West. Joyce Wood was secretary, pro tem. Treasurer, Jan Decker reported nearly $3,000. in account. Her report was accepted as read. Joyce Wood presented the minutes from July. They were approved as read. Tony Decker, Communications Co-ordinator, reported results from surveys, both written and on-line. The general concensus is that WNA has garnered some new volunteers for many of our activities, and the membership likes the activities that have been presented. Also, people are interested in improvements at Harvest Park. He also mentioned that we need a new volunteer to hang the banners for the meetings. Officer Brad Haught reported that generally crime is down 20% in our neighborhood, but burglaries seem to be up. He stressed again that people lock their cars, and keep their garage doors closed. Peggy Higgins, a nutritionist spoke to the membership about improving health with good nutrition, stressing that fruits and vegetables with color are higher in antioxidants. Carla Lee reported that the City of Wichita Park Dept made a commitment of $70,000 for sidewalks in Harvest Park. Rodrigo Aguirre reported that the Mexican Independence Day Fiesta on Sept 19 was attended by 240-260 people, and the sponsors seemed pleased by the response. John Poettker said that he had 10 volunteers so far for the Neighborhood Clean-up in October, and he needed more. Tony announced that there would be no LL before the Pancake & Sausage feed in October, so he asked that everyone help distribute posters and promote. Ron Nutt stated that the Christmas decorating judging would take place around the 15th of December, and there would be cash prizes to the top 3 places, along with signs in those yards proclaiming their status. Carla Lee gave a report on WIN. She attended the annual meeting in May in Little Rock, and brought back some ideas on various topics. She also reported that WNA won an award through WIN for best social activity (Ice Cream Social). Linda Shinogle announced a dinner theatre production at Resurrection Church at 4910 N Woodlawn. Ron acknowledged Jerry Stegink's expertise on providing sound for our meetings, and asked that John Handley, ad manager, be recognized as well. Meeting adjourned at 8:26pm. |
