Planning meeting

1-23-07, 7-8pm, Jane's house.

Participants:Jim, Rita, Jane, Officer Haught; three phoned that they could not come (Marnie, Lanelda, Anthony) and three who thought they could come did not.

Boundaries:  unresolved dividing district north/south or east/west, or keeping it whole.

We noted the enthusiasm of the skateboard-park respondents.

Officer Haught will phone Chris and Rhonda, the two folks from the previous Westlink Neighborhood Association, to ensure continuity. 

     Next 3 meetings

     Member meeting 2-13-07 at 7pm: 

     Hope Mennonite, 868 N Maize RD  

 

  • We would like to have a panel of folks from other City neighborhood associations. Suggestions were College Hill, Delano , Mead,Riverside and Sunflower.
  • Dana sent us the list of HOA and NAs so we have phone numbers to invite. 
  • Possible topics for those panel members:  How to communicate with residents such as hand-delivered newsletters? How leadership is selected, elected or appointed. How decisions are made. How projects are adopted or begun. How often board or all members meet. Best size for NA; % of participant-residents. Any negatives. 

We should collect questions to ask the candidates.

Jane will phone those contact people to invite to our panel, plus the Wichita Independent Neighborhood president.

2.     Candidate forum Tuesday 2-20-07 7pm:  745 N Westlink

  • WNA will sponsor the forum.
  • West Heights Methodist will host the forum.
  • League of Women Voters will conduct the forum

Jim and Rita split the list of candidates to phone to save the date.  Jane and Jim as Interim Coordinators will sign the LWV letters to the candidates.  Jane will send out press releases to print and TV media.

3.     Member meeting 3-13-07:  7pm, Hope Mennonite, 868 N Maize RD

Discuss and finalize decisions on communication, leadership, etc.

 

Announcement for 3 meetings: 

Jet Printing and City ofWichita will donate the cost of this one-time-only postcard* to all 1807 households within 13th-Central, Tyler-Maize.

Jane sent postcard to Jet, Dana will pick up the postcards and deliver with payments to mailing house. 

Other publicity: Jane will email press releases to Electronic: Kmuw.org, allaboutwichita.com; print:  Eagle (both Calendar and Amanda O Toole) and West Side Story; and TV stations. 

Beyond 3 meetings: 

  • Ask to publicize and participate in meetings and projects:

  • Churches for space in their street marquees and/or in their Sunday bulletins: Ascension Lutheran, Country Acres Baptist, Hope Mennonite, St Francis Catholic, West Evangelical Free Church, West Heights Methodist,Westlink Church of Christ.
  • Schools for their marquees and/or parent newsletters: McCollom and Peterson.
  • Businesses in our area such as Quik Trip, Cholita's, Gesslers, Saturn, Westlake Hardware, Hair Salon.
  • Neighborhood Watch captains.
  • Recruit Quadrant captains.
  • Get P O Box and website. 
  • Possibly recruit folks to handout newsletters. 
  • We'll need small amounts of money for website, printing newsletters and P O box.
  • The SK8 board folks are eager to pursue skateboard park.
