Westlink Neighborhood Assoc. Gen. Membership Minutes 7/19/11 Park West Plaza 505 N Maize Rd. Meeting was held at Park West Plaza Assisted Living facility, and the general membership was treated to an excellent dinner prior to the meeting. About 60 people were in attendance. Also, Eva & Leroy Brightup held a book signing for their book, "Golden Apples for Golden Agers" in the lobby. Ron Nutt called meeting to order at 7:05pm. Board members absent were Jerry Stegink and Carla Lee. Treasurer reported $3,106.97 in account. Report was approved. Secretary's minutes were approved as written. Officer Brad Haught gave a summary of activity in the area. One of the most persistent problems remains people leaving garage doors open. There was an arrest made in response to several businesses being vandalized. Officer Haught then took questions from the floor. Sherry Hayden introduced our featured speaker, Loren Corliss. Loren was a World War II Air Force pilot. He told us about his experiences during the war, particularly after being shot down in the South Pacific. The membership was appreciative of his stories and of his service. Ron brought us up to date on the Harvest Park improvements, pointing out that the placement of the park benches being purchased was waiting for the concrete slabs donated by Cornejo & Sons to be poured. Also, we are still taking donations for picnic tables. John Poettker announced that the neighborhood cleanup is Sept 24, and will include the area between 13th and Central, east of Westlink Drive. There will be a dumpster at the staging area at Harvest Park. The Cleanup is on rain or shine. He asked for volunteers, and reminded everyone that the service is free, but donations are welcome. Tony Decker reported that there had not been any LL delivered to businesses in the area at this time, and would welcome volunteers to help with that. There being no new business, meeting adjourned at 8:10pm. |
