Westlink Neighborhood Assoc.

General Membership Meeting

Sept. 20, 2011

West Heights Methodist Church

Meeting called to order at 7:00pm by WNA president, Ron Nutt.  Cookies were provided by Joyce Handley, and coffee was furnished by Joyce & Richard Wood. Jan Decker gave the treasurer's report, which was approved. Secretary's minutes were distributed, and approved as well.

Officer Brad Haught gave the crime report for the area, leading with the good news that burglaries were down 47%. He took some questions from the floor, many of them regarding traffic issues.

The featured speaker, Myron Janzen, treated us to a Kansas history lesson as illustrated by postage marks and stamps through the years. It was an interesting presentation.

Ron Nutt updated us on the Harvest Park project, stating that the city strongly recommended a different style of park bench and table that would be less vulnerable to vandalism. The benches are waiting for the concrete slabs to be set that are being donated by Cornejo. It should be done in a few weeks. He also addressed the problem of dog and horse droppings in the park, and asked that people be considerate and pick up after their pets. He also noted that he had seen a number of people already doing that, and he thanked them.

John Poettker reminded everyone that the neighborhood clean-up will be Saturday, and will cover the area east of Westlink Drive, and between 13th and Central. The staging area will be in Harvest park, and once again the Grahams are sponsoring the event and feeding the volunteers.

Carla Lee gave a report on WIN, including the fact that at Neighborhood University, WNA won certificates for our newsletter publication and our Neighborhood Clean-up project.

New Business: Carla asked for input on theme ideas for speakers for the 2012 general membership meetings.

Meeting adjourned at 8:30pm.
